Arlene Lavonne (Schulze) Anderson, age 98, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Good Samaritan in St. Ansgar. Arlene was born in Mitchell County on December 11, 1926, to Ervin William and Martha Christina (Hofland) Schulze. She was baptized on January 16, 1927.
She attended grade school at Drown #3 country school (Mitchell County) and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1944. She worked at St. Ansgar State Bank after graduation until her marriage to Donald F. Anderson on August 1, 1948. To this union two children were born: Connie and Steven. Don owned a trucking company and hauled grain out of St. Ansgar. He then worked as a livestock buyer for Hormel until the mid-1960’s when they moved to Whittemore, Iowa, where he was a hog buyer for Farmland. They later returned to St. Ansgar to operate the St. Ansgar Oil Company until Don’s passing on February 1, 1979. Arlene sold the business and started work at the St. Ansgar Bank until retirement in 1992. Arlene was an avid card player, belonging to many card clubs for 500 and Bridge with other local ladies. She loved bingo and going to the casino. She also traveled on many bus trips through the bank. Arlene’s coffee pot was always on. It wasn’t unusual for her to drink two or three pots a day!
Arlene is survived by her children, Connie Rosenberg of St. Ansgar, Steven (Jo) Anderson of Story City, Iowa; grandchildren, Rachel Rosenberg of St. Ansgar, Josh (Anna) Rosenberg of St. Ansgar, Zachary Rosenberg of St. Ansgar, Ben Anderson of Bellingham, WA, Kate Schleisman (Jake) of Polk City, Iowa; great grandchildren, Olivia, Madelynn, Nolan, Leighton, Parker and Brayton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; brother Eugene and wife Evelyn; great granddaughter, Harper Putz; and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Toeterville, IA. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery.
