Beverly Ann Theobald

Beverly Ann (Retterath) Theobald, age 85, of Stacyville, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Mercy One Medical Center Waterloo, Iowa. Beverly was born on September 20, 1940, in Dexter, Minnesota. The daughter of Joe and Effie (Buringa) Retterath. She was one of 11 children. She grew up in Stacyville, Iowa, and attended Visitation Grade School in Stacyville. As a young teenager she babysat for new mothers in their homes. At the age of 16, she moved to Austin, Minnesota to live with her aunt and uncle, who found her a nanny position with the Duke Gray family where she learned many life skills, such as sewing, and being a homemaker.

Beverly met Delphin Theobald in 1958, and they were later married on September 2, 1961. They resided in Stacyville, Iowa, and raised their three children: Brenda, Connie, and Nick. Beverly later studied and received her GED in February of 1975. Her sewing skills led her to many alteration jobs, and eventually her craft business, “Sew-n-Stuff”. She also worked at the Cue Inn in Stacyville and later at the Stacyville Nursing Home as an Activities Director, where she loved working with the residents.

She enjoyed visiting her daughter Brenda at her camp site at Happy Time Campground. She loved being outside in the yard attending to her plants and relaxing on the patio with Del and enjoying a cold Busch Light. She loved attending sporting events, spending many years watching her husband, children, and grandchildren play softball. Beverly enjoyed bowling, that took her to many tournaments around the country. Beverly loved being with family most of all, including their pets.

Beverly is survived by her husband, Delphin Theobald; daughter’s, Brenda Theobald of Mason City, Iowa, Connie Theobald-Low (Joel Nickerson) of St. Ansgar, Iowa; son, Nick Theobald (Brandie) of Mason City, Iowa; grandchildren, Britney (Matthew) Fjone, Shelby (Thomas) Patterson, Jordan Theobald, Riley (Cal) Snyder, Shaye Theobald; great grandchildren, Karcyn and Emerson Patterson, Hayes and Brooks Fjone.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Effie Retterath; sister’s, Phyllis Retterath, Roseann Meyer; brothers, John, Mike, Gene, Jim, Joe; sisters-in-law, Jan Retterath, Cindy Retterath; son-in-law, Rocky Low.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Stacyville Community Nursing Home.

A funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Visitation Catholic Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Visitation Catholic Cemetery following the service.
