Charlotte A. Kirkegaard, age 94, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Faith Home Assisted Living in Osage, after a short battle with heart disease.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 22 with visitation one hour prior, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage. The Rev. Dr. Laurie Iudin-Nelson is officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the West Hill Cemetery in Genoa, Nebraska.
Charlotte was born on January 5, 1932 in Lindsay, Nebraska, to Ferdinand and Odetta (Thomazin) Pearson. She graduated from high school in Genoa, Nebraska and attended Luther College in Wahoo, Nebraska and later Dana College, in Blair, Nebraska. There she met Anton Kirkegaard and the rest is their history together.
Charlotte married Anton Kirkegaard in Lindsay, Nebraska on August 22, 1954. They lived in numerous places across Iowa where Anton served as pastor - Hamlin, Underwood, Monticello, Inwood and Ft. Dodge. When Anton retired, they moved to Osage where Charlotte resided until her death. Charlotte taught school in a one room school in her early career. She later continued in the education field as a substitute teacher in numerous school districts across Iowa. For many years she also marketed World Book encyclopedias. She was a seamstress from the age of 8 and over her lifetime became known for her keen eye in creating amazing wedding dresses, sometimes from as little as a picture. In the 60’s she began her outreach for Lutheran World Relief and sewed and assembled more than 4000 quilts that were shipped around the world in the decades that followed. She was internationally recognized by LWR in 2026 for her decades of quilting ministry for the church. She was an avid reader, loved to make cookies and her famous cinnamon rolls and was very proud of her family – children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding Charlotte in death were her parents, her husband, Anton Kirkegaard, her brother, Roger Pearson, and her beloved grandson, Sgt. Jacob Hutchinson.
Survivors include her family; three children, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Her son - Scot Kirkegaard and husband, Kenny live in Liverpool, New York and their son, Christian and wife, Jenny of Baldwinsville, New York and their children Rex and Ainsley.
