Cole Duane Counsell

Cole Duane Counsell, age 27, of Osage, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at his home. Cole was born on October 14, 1997, in Osage, Iowa, to Don and Shelly (Sloth) Counsell. He graduated from Osage High School in 2016. Following graduation, Cole worked at various jobs and particularly enjoyed the Little Cedar Co-Op. He was most recently employed at Valent BioSciences as a project fermentation operator, working overnight with a great crew.

Cole was the kind of guy who never met a stranger. His personality and laughter drew people in, and his favorite memories were time spent with friends. Whether he was hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, or riding ATVs, Cole was always up for an adventure, often trying anything once, even if it wasn’t the best idea!

He was very close with his brother, Derek. Growing up the pair would spend countless hours playing farm in the house and as they grew many of those hours were spent working in the barn. Cole enjoyed collecting toy tractors with his dad and had a special bond with his mom; he called her every morning when he got off work to check in and say hello. He was also a proud dog dad to Luna, who he adopted just a year before he passed; she was the best thing ever to happen to Cole and brought him endless joy. We will miss him more than words can say.

Cole is survived by his parents, Don and Shelly of Osage; brother, Derek (Callie) Counsell of Colfax, Iowa; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dale and Louise Sloth; paternal grandparents, Maurice Counsell and Gene and JoAnn Squier.

The visitation for Cole will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Hoff Celebrations – Champion Chapel in Osage. Following the visitation, a celebration of Cole’s life will take place at the Osage American Legion beginning at 5:00 p.m. Hoff Celebrations - Champion Chapel of Osage is assisting the family with arrangements.
