Darlene Mae (Peters) Nicholson, age 89, of Osage, Iowa passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
Darlene was born August 31, 1936, on a farm near Munden, Kansas. Darlene was the oldest of two children born to John and Albina (Pelesky) Peters. Darlene and her brother Don had many adventures growing up on the family farm. She graduated from Munden High School in 1954. Darlene married James Nicholson on August 7, 1954, in Osage. To this union two children, Belinda and Gregory, were born.
They made their home in Belleville, Kansas until 1968 when they moved to Osage, Iowa. Darlene spent the early years as a homemaker. She was a wonderful cook and kept an immaculate home. After moving to Osage, Darlene cleaned homes for others for close to 25 years. Darlene loved to travel and collect Beanie Babies. She was the number one fan of the family country band. Later, Jim and Darlene played for dances for several years featuring Darlene on the Omnichord.
Those left to cherish Darlene’s memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Mark Borchardt of Grafton; grandchildren, Karen (Dan) Stuber of Cedar Falls; twins, Andrew and Kenneth Borchardt of Grafton; Kristin (Mickel) Riddick of Raleigh, NC, and Jamie (Bill) Grouette of Mason City; seven great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends, whose lives she deeply touched.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James, in September of 2004; and her son, Gregory in September of 2004 and her brother, Don Peters in May of 2018.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Hoff Celebrations – Champion Chapel in Osage with the Pastor Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
