David Ernest McNutt, age 72, of rural St. Ansgar, passed away on February 18, 2026, at his farm. David was born in Osage, Iowa on April 22, 1953, to Millard and Virginia (Raine). His mother died when David was very young and he was raised by Millard and his adoptive mother Barbara (Breaw).
David graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1971 and then from NIACC in 1973. He was united in marriage to Lois (Medlang) on August 31, 1974, and to this union two children were born – Kimberly Ann and Kevin Alan.
The family lived west of Kensett where David spent many years farming and raising hogs and beef cattle. He was active in the Worth County Cattlemen’s Association and assisting his children with their 4-H and FFA projects. Past times were filled with many hobbies and interests including tractor pulling, go-cart racing, and working on anything mechanical.
In earlier years, David worked at Gulf Farm Center in Northwood with his father and brother before he chose to take on the rigors of farming fulltime. He later established his own business, McNutt & Bolts, doing machinery setup. In later years, he was an active member of the Pony Express, not on a horse, but rather on his 4-wheeler behind the horses at numerous parades.
David is survived by his wife, Lois; his daughter, Kimberly Gonzalez and son, Kevin (Susan); four grandchildren, Ava and Aiden Gonzalez and Karter and Kylie McNutt; and his brother Robert (Sheri).
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Barbara Jean Dohler, and his brother-in-law Royal Dohler.
A memorial service for David will be held on Saturday, February 28th, 2026, at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, 4108 Killdeer Ave, Kensett, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service and burial to follow at Elk Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Elk Creek Lutheran Church or Three Rivers Pony Express.
Hoff Celebrations - Champion Chapel of Osage is assisting the family with arrangements.
