Dean Russell Gordon

Dean Russell Gordon, age 85, of Northwood, passed away on April 1, 2025, while wintering in Mesa, Arizona. He was born on August 1, 1939, to Lawrence and Myrtle Gordon. Dean graduated from Kensett High School. On March 29, 1959, he married Phyllis Jean Ellingson, and they made their home on a farm near Kensett. They were married for 59 years until Phyllis passed away November 3, 2018. He was a farmer all his life, he began farming with his father and then took over the family farm when his father retired. Dean and Phyllis had two daughters, Michele Gordon of Mason City, Iowa and Teresa Hanson of Kensett, Iowa. In the early 1960s, Dean was a member of the National Guard as a sharpshooter. When the girls were in their early teenage years, they traveled to Colorado to snow ski. They also took the girls all over the USA on numerous trips with their 5th wheel travel trailer. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, in Kensett and Northwood Country Club. Dean enjoyed riding his motorcycles and sports cars, trapshooting and was an avid golfer. He loved to travel and build and fly model airplanes. Dean was an artist, he loved to do carpentry, woodworking, painting and metal work. He was extremely talented and made several pieces for his family and his home. At the age of 58, Dean semi-retired and this was the start of winters in Mesa, Arizona. Dean loved to tease and joke with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.

 He is survived by Michele Gordon of Mason City, and Teresa (Mike) Hanson of Kensett; grandchildren, Nicole (Steve) Hennick of Nashua, Jenna (Shawn) Ellingson of Glenville, Minnesota, and Alex (Haley) Hanson of Northwood; great-grandchildren, Carter, Kaylee, Kyler, Madison, Max, Bree, Jackson, Kade, Kenna and Kinsley; great-great-grandchildren, Iris and Brexton; sister, Laura (Gary) Greenlund of Northfield, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Myrtle Gordon; wife, Phyllis Gordon; and brother, Roger Gordon.

 Memorial service for Dean will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Hoff Celebrations - Sites Memorial Chapel in Northwood, Iowa with burial to follow in Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
