Deborah Ann James

Deborah James, age 64, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, sadly passed away on January 21, 2026. Deb was born on January 30, 1961, in Mason City, Iowa. She graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1979. Following graduation, Deb ventured to Colorado, where she met the love of her life, Steve James. The two soon began their family together.

Family was everything to Deb. She returned to St. Ansgar to raise her children and dedicated many years to St. Ansgar Community Schools, where she was a beloved lunch lady and cheerleading coach. Deb looked forward to seeing “her kids” every day and shared countless laughs and smiles with students from elementary through high school.

Deb was fiercely independent, living life on her own terms. Above all, she adored her grandchildren. Becoming a grandmother was the proudest moment of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Deb was truly one of a kind - known for her fiery spirit, sharp sense of humor, warm smile, and loving heart. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Deb is survived by her children, Jeremy James, Jennifer (Mike) Moorehead, and Justin James; her grandchildren, Gage (Abi Arciniega) Moorehead, Ashton Moorehead, Keegan James, and Jase and Jax James; her brother, Robert Greimann; her sisters, Dawn (Steve) Albright and Denniece Pinneke; her nephew, Corey (Melissa) Greimann; and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Delores Pinneke, and her husband, Steve James.

To honor Deb’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date

Hoff Celebrations – Schroeder Chapel of St. Ansgar is assisting the family with arrangements.
