Galen D. Schulz, age 88, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in St. Ansgar, Iowa. Galen was born on June 23, 1936, in Osage to Harrison and Alice (Lindley) Schulz. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School where he participated in FFA and played on the football team. On February 8, 1954, Galen married his high school sweetheart, Audrey Olson. She was the love of his life. They celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2024. Galen and Audrey lived their entire lives in St. Ansgar where they raised their three children and were active members in the community they loved and at First Lutheran Church. Galen had a 40-year career at the REC in St. Ansgar. He started as a lineman in 1956 and later became line superintendent, retiring in 1996. Galen was a farm boy at heart. He raised hogs and cattle with his dad, his brother, and his son. Some of his best days were on his John Deere tractor, farming.
Galen was a devoted husband and father. He and Audrey were committed to and enjoyed their family. They hosted large family gatherings on holidays, birthdays, and special events. Galen had a knack for bringing a smile and a laugh to the faces of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a large presence in their lives. Galen and Audrey enjoyed traveling, especially going on cruises with friends and family.
Galen loved a party. He loved bringing people together. From hosting parties, to golfing with buddies, to cruise trips and to meeting his weekly coffee circle, he thrived in a group of friends.
We all love and will miss him. The pain we feel is eased knowing that he has joined his beloved Audrey and that we will meet again.
Galen is survived by his children, Stephanie (Estes), Mark, and Tim (Jodie); 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jolene, Phyllis, and Lois; brothers, Gerald, and Delbert; and many loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey; parents, Harrison and Alice; brother, William; granddaughter, Echo Rose Schulz; and great-granddaughter Olive Esma Schulz.
Galen’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Staley, Dr. Ross and staff, the staff at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, and the staff of St. Croix Hospice for their love and care of Galen. Also, a special thank you to Kim Koster for her care.
