Garry Dean Kuntz was born on December 9th, 1937, in Worth County near Grafton, Iowa. He graduated from Grafton High School in 1955. After graduation, he began his career in construction with Hollatz Construction of St. Ansgar, IA. He entered the U.S. Army in 1957. After Basic Training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, he spent his second eight weeks at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was then stationed in Mannheim, Germany with the 41st Transportation Company. Following two years of duty in Germany, he was deployed to Fort Sheridan, IL. He then spent four more years with the Federal Army Reserves. In 1962, he started a business partnership, K&K Construction. In 1964 he started Kuntz Construction, and in 1990 he sold his business to his son-in-law. He then went into the lumber business, founding Kuntz Lumber, Inc. He also spent many years farming.
In addition to serving his country and providing a good life for his family, he served his community by being active in various organizations, including the REC board, a position he held for over twenty years. They later enjoyed many national and international travels, especially their years wintering in Texas.
On July 19th, 1959, he married Helen Mitchell of Mason City, Iowa. To this union they were blessed with three daughters: Vicki (Danny) Clark, rural Plymouth; Rhonda (Lynn) Hemann, Osage; and Tammy (Curt) Clausen, Manly.
He is survived by his wife, children, six grandchildren: Amber (Scott) Van Ryswyk, rural Prairie City; T.J. (Leah) Clark, Lincoln, NE; Ivy (Kendal) Sickels, Osage; Jake (Bre) Hemann, Clinton, IA; Jess (Katelyn) Clausen, Ankeny; and Jewel Clausen and Eric Nelson, Mason City; as well as nine great-grandchildren: Ellie, Emriana, Isaiah, Judah, and August Clark; Violet and Oakley Sickels; as well as Arie and Sullivan Van Ryswyk. Also his brother, Harlan (Marsha) Kuntz, Otranto; sister, Cleone (Duane) King, Floyd, Iowa; brothers- and sisters-in-law; Larry (Yvonne) Ward and Gary (Jennifer) Ward.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Alice (Wilde) Kuntz; two brothers, Joel and Craig; a brother- and sister-in-law, Robert (Shirley) Mitchell; and one great-granddaughter, Isla Clark.
A visitation will be held at Hoff Celebrations - Champion Chapel, 702 State St, Osage, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27th, 2025. Funeral services will take place where he was baptized, confirmed, and married: Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28th, 2025. Burial will follow at the Grafton Cemetery with Military Honors by Grafton American Legion.
