Jack Allen Edgington

Jack Allen Edgington, age 87, of St. Ansgar, IA passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at his home. Jack was born on February 10, 1938, in rural Mason City to Marvin and Viola (Tucke) Edgington. The family moved to rural Carpenter when Jack was young. He grew up farming with his family and graduated from Carpenter High School. While in school, Jack met Marilyn Moore. The two dated and were later married at Osage Methodist Church on November 26, 1960. The newly married couple moved out to the family farm and continued the multigeneration farm where they raised Chris, Tom, and Anne. Jack was intentional in the lessons he passed down, one of which was, “Work hard, play hard.” This didn’t just mean working hard on the farm, it also means being an active board member and volunteer around the community to better it for everyone. Over the years Jack served on many boards and projects in the area such as, Chairman of the Church Building Committee, Economic Development Committee, School Board, helping bring the golf course to St. Ansgar and many more. He also worked much of his life as a seed salesman. Jack always enjoyed driving around visiting the farmers he sold seed to and helping them craft the best harvest they could.

When it came time to play, there were many activities he could be caught up with, they were always outside and involved his kids, grandkids and great-grand kids. One of those activities he made sure all his family could do or at least had to attempt was water skiing. When the kids were young, they learned to ski behind the 9 horsepower jon boat on the Cedar river. In later years those lessons were taught to the grandkids at the annual Leech Lake Edgington family week. He taught Walleye Fishing 101 on the dock of the resort. Jack was also very invested in local and regional sports teams and was a Cyclone at heart. The night before he passed, he stayed up late to make sure he saw how the Iowa vs Iowa State Women’s Basketball game turned out. He also enjoyed playing golf, bowling as well as playing cribbage with his Carpenter Crew and his family.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; son, Chris (Vanessa) Edgington of rural St. Ansgar and their two children, Alex (Sarah) and their children Colton, Rylee, Louellen, Hadley. Elizabeth (Charles) White and their child, Mackenzie; son Tom (Melissa) of rural St. Ansgar and their four children, Larissa (Brian) Heimer and their children, Urijah, Alissa, Roselyn. Bridgette (Mason) Brown and their children, Aidan, Fletcher. Samantha (Robert Brumm) and his boys Cooper, Ryland. Abigail (Dylan) Johnson and their children, Barrett, Walter, and Viola; daughter, Anne McMillan and her two children, Stephanie (Sam) Callahan, Matthew McMillan; sister, Bonnie (Bill Singer) Edgington; sisters in law, Sheri (Robert) McNutt, Judy (David) Goplerlud and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Jim McMillan.
