Jim Larson, age 74, of Osage, Iowa, went home to be with our Lord on Monday, April 20, 2026. He was returning home from a family wedding in Texas when he sustained a head injury from a fall.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Champion Funeral Home in Osage from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Plymouth Bible Baptist Church in Plymouth, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the 53 missionaries supported by Plymouth Bible Baptist Church or to a charity of your choice.
Jim was born on September 24, 1951, to Kenneth and Gladys Larson in Osage, Iowa. He graduated from Osage Senior High School in 1970 and from Iowa State University in 1974. On August 3, 1974, he married Kim Harris. Jim was connection to the rhythm and beauty of God's seasons, taking pride in hard, honest work and a job well done. He found joy in simple blessings: time with family, moments of prayer, and opportunities to lend a helping hand to friends or strangers.
His greatest joy was loving and caring for his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was also a faithful member of Plymouth Bible Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer a word of encouragement. His faith was not only something he spoke about, but something he lived out daily—with kindness, patience, and quiet strength.
Jim worked as a farmer and hazardous material transporter, where he was respected for his integrity, dedication, and strong moral character. But his number one job was caring for his wife, sons, and grandchildren. He loved having them by his side in daily activities: farming, coaching, the fair, FFA, sports, and school activities from kindergarten through college. Once his sons grew into men, he was promoted into his favorite role—grandfather. Jim loved to fish and travel with family and friends. He was the master of the “honey-do” list. Whether through conversation, laughter, or prayer, he made others feel seen, valued, and loved.
Jim is survived by his wife, Kim, of 51 years; his son, Nicholas (Abby) and their children, Grant, Wesley, and Lillian; and his son, Todd (Trista) and their daughter, Maddyn. He is also survived by his brother, John (Cathy) Larson; sister, Sharon (Bruce) Maples; sister-in-law, Jule (Paul) Larson; brother-in-law, Jim (Deb) Harris; sisters-in-law, Lynne Wright (Drew Davis) and Hollie Toppin (Jon Harris); nieces and nephews: s(Paul): Alissa, Heather, Stephanie, Kristy, Dasiana, Betshaida, Mari; (John): AJ and Jenna; (Sharon): Maura and Cailin; (Jim H): Latisha, Joshua, Jamie; (Lynne): Robbie; (Jon): Karmen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Gladys Larson; his brother, Paul Larson; his sister-in-law, Jeannene Larson; and his brother-in-law, Jon Harris. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in the promise of eternal life and the assurance that he is now at peace in God’s presence.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
