Lorraine Agnes Klaes

Lorraine Agnes (Schultheis) Klaes, age 89, of Osage, Iowa, died Saturday, June 27, 2026, in Osage, surrounded by her loving family.

Lorraine, the daughter of Harold and Erna (Rogers) Schultheis, was born February 18, 1937, at home in rural Osage. She attended local country school and graduated from Osage High School in 1955. She attended Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, completing her degree in 1957. After graduation, she worked at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Lorraine was united in marriage to Raymond Leo Klaes on December 28, 1957, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage.

Lorraine worked side by side with Ray raising 10 kids on their farm, baking pies and cooking 50 pounds of potatoes a week. Farming was their livelihood, and she still owns cattle. She loved to see farming carried into future generations.

She enjoyed volunteering for over 30 years. Her activities included the school, hospital, 4-H, Riceville Library Mitchell County Museum, and Mitchell Memories. Lorraine served on the New Haven Church Board, as president of the Altar Society, as church historian, and on the New Haven Booster Club. When St. Mary’s School in New Haven closed, she began teaching second grade CCD classes and provided First Communion instruction to many of her own children. She was active in the creation of the Cedar River Complex. Lorraine enjoyed many crafts: embroidery, sewing, quilting, and painting. She also worked part-time at RR Donnelley.

Her grandchildren fondly remember Lorraine’s affinity for Halloween trick-or-treating, her famous kolaches, and her love of the color purple.

Lorraine’s greatest joy was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved family gatherings and watching families grow.

Lorraine is survived by her ten children: Julie (Dennis) Morrison of Osage; Marlys Sindelar (Ed Beeson) of Urbandale, IA; Steve (Kathy) of Marsland, NE; Curt (Mary) of Osage; Dave (Cindy) of Osage; Kenny (Pam) of Hemingford, NE; Lisa Round of Tontitown, AR; Jeff (Shari) of Riceville, IA; Eric (Angie) of Elma, IA; and Brad (Laura) of North Liberty, IA; 27 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, in 2016; her parents; her sisters Katheryn Schmuecker, Mary Hemann, and Elizabeth McDermott; and her grandson, Nick Sindelar.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Haven, Iowa. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in New Haven. Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, with a rosary beginning at 4:15 p.m. There will also be a viewing at 9:30 a.m. at the church prior to the Funeral Mass on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial will be given to local organizations in her name.
