Mark Matthew Fritsch

Mark Matthew Fritsch, age 73, of Osage, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2026. Mark was born on September 13, 1952, in Rochester, Minnesota, to Matthew and Barbara (Winkels) Fritsch. He was deeply dedicated to his Catholic faith, a foundation built during his school years attending St. Francis and Lourdes High School, where he graduated in 1970.

He grew up to build a dedicated and highly respected career in manufacturing sales. Mark worked for most of his career in inside sales at Crenlo. He later transitioned to outside sales for the Loegering/Terex company, building strong, lasting connections across the region until his well-deserved retirement in 2024. Throughout his life and career, Mark was known by colleagues, clients, and friends alike for his professionalism, integrity, and his sharp, trademark quick wit. He was also instantly recognizable to everyone who knew him by his signature, perfectly maintained buzz cut.

Mark was passionate about sports, especially baseball and hockey. When his children were younger, he spent countless hours at the local fields and rinks, helping coach their T-ball, baseball, and hockey teams. In recent years, he found a brand-new sports obsession in the WNBA's Indiana Fever, rarely missing a game so he could follow his favorite fellow Iowan, Caitlin Clark. More than any professional team, Mark’s favorite athletes were his own grandchildren. He treasured every moment spent cheering them on at their various sporting events.

Mark loved being outdoors hunting and fishing, and he always appreciated a good classic rock song. He was a man of deep kindness and humor who would drop everything to help a neighbor or a loved one in need.

Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Gwen (Driscoll) Fritsch; his children, Chris (Laura) Fritsch and Sarah (Nick) Malecha; his stepchildren, Ryan Driscoll, Jared Driscoll, and Stacy (Travis) Petree; his cherished grandchildren, Grayson, Mason, Carson, Landon, Allie, Kaydee, Cully, Jaycee, Rylee, Bailey, Haylee, and Madie; and his siblings, David (Gloria) Fritsch and Darlene Holmes; many nieces and nephews that have at least one funny story about their Uncle Mark; and his two orange feline companions, Cheeto and Dorito, who stole the heart of this lifelong dog lover.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Barbara Fritsch; his sister, Helen; his nephew, Steve; and his granddaughter, Madison.

A private family graveside burial will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Osage, IA. A celebration of Mark's life will be held after the service from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Cedar Valley Seminary, located at 200 N 7th St, Osage, IA. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate a life well-lived.
