He attended Visitation School in Stacyville, and shortly after, joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. Dan also served for many years in the Army National Guard, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked for many years at Oliver/White Farm Equipment in Charles City and Hormel in Austin, Minnesota. The “Milk Route” was a big part of Dan’s life for many years, delivering milk door to door in Stacyville and the surrounding areas. It was a cherished treat for both him and the kids on Saturday mornings, and typically included an extended stop at Grandma and Grandpa Wageman’s for coffee, orange juice and ginger snaps. Driving the milk truck for the first time was considered a rite of passage for his children and many of his nieces and nephews. Dan is remembered for his beautiful voice, singing to his family and in church, and also a lector at Mass.
