Robert Douglas Loften

Robert “Rob” Douglas Loften III, age 53, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at St. Mary’s in Rochester, Minnesota, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and deep devotion to family and friends.

Rob was born on December 3, 1972, in Mason City, Iowa, to R. (Doug) Douglas Loften Jr. and Mary (Reaney) Loften. He graduated from Osage High School in 1991 and later earned a degree in Animal Science from Iowa State University in 2003.

On September 25, 2004, Rob married the love of his life, Melissa Badker, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage. Together they built a life centered around family, raising their two children, Miley and Jackson, who were his greatest pride and joy.

Rob began his career at Brees Tire and later worked as an Office Manager at Osage Towing & Repair, where he was known for his strong work ethic and friendly nature.

Rob loved to sing and shared his talent at weddings, including his own, family funerals, and karaoke.

Rob had a deep love for the outdoors, a passion he shared with his father and carried throughout his life. From a young age, he could be found hunting geese, ducks, pheasants, turkey, coyote, fox, and deer. He also loved fishing and ice fishing as soon as he was old enough to hold a pole, with bass fishing holding a special place in his heart. Some of his most cherished memories were made hunting and fishing alongside his children, family, and many close friends.

Above all else, Rob valued his family and friendships. He was someone others could always count on, and he treasured the people who stood beside him through life.

Rob is survived by his wife, Melissa; his children, Miley and Jackson; his mother, Mary Loften; his sister, Kelly (John) Ross and their children Kamden, Charlee, Rayna, and Kendall; his parents-in-law, Robert and Julie Badker; his sister-in-law, Ashley (Troy) Hanson and their children Makayla, Karlie, Hayden, and Halle; his brothers-in-law, Jeffrey (Jamie) Badker and their children Bailey, Callen, and Isla, and Robert Bornholdt and his son Jayce; along with his uncles, Jim Loften and Tom Loften; aunt Linda Reaney; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, R. (Doug) Douglas Loften Jr.; his grandparents, Dr. Robert D. Loften Sr., Mary R. Loften, Shirley Reaney, Max Reaney, and step-grandmother Jean Reaney; and his uncle Robert Reaney and aunt Sherry Loften.

Rob will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his kind heart, his love of the outdoors, and the unwavering love he had for his family and friends.
