Roger Lee Boerjan, age 80, passed away on April 26, 2026. He was born on August 29, 1945, in Osage, Iowa, to Benjamin and Gertrude (Borchardt) Boerjan, and was a lifelong resident of St. Ansgar, Iowa.
Roger lived a quiet and steady life, marked by humility, kindness, and an appreciation for the simple things. A man of strong Catholic faith, his beliefs were an important foundation throughout his life.
He graduated from St. Ansgar High School and spent his working years in a variety of roles, including as a janitor for the school system, an ambulance driver, and a custodian at the Good Samaritan Society. He also devoted time to caring for his parents in their later years.
During his time as an ambulance driver, Roger served his community by assisting in the transport of those in need of medical care, a role that reflected his sense of responsibility and willingness to help others.
Growing up on a farm, Roger developed many practical skills and often spoke of baling hay, caring for livestock, working the land, and pulling weeds. He enjoyed fishing at the river when he had the opportunity and spending time visiting with his aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also appreciated a good meal out and the comfort of familiar routines.
After his parents passed, Roger came to really appreciate the strong relationships in his life, especially with Yvonne and Ivan Woods, Judy and Chuck Hansen, and, more recently, Paul Boerjan. He would also have wanted to apologize if he accidentally left anyone out.
Roger was a man of few words but a warm and steady presence to those who knew him. He valued family, faith, and the quiet rhythms of everyday life. He is remembered for his reliability, sincerity, and quiet strength.
He is survived by his brother, Gary Boerjan, and sister, Gwen Reiss. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Roger now rests in peace with them.
A graveside service will be held Friday, May 1, 2026, at 1:00 pm at St. Ansgar City Cemetery in St. Ansgar, Iowa.
Roger will be remembered by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
