Samuel Lloyd Severson

Samuel Lloyd Severson, 77, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2026, following a short stay at the Good Samaritan in St. Ansgar. He was born on March 31, 1949, to Roy and Mabel Severson.

Sam was the youngest of four brothers. He attended school in St. Ansgar and graduated from Hawkeye Tech with a degree in animal husbandry.

Sam retired from Farmer’s Hybrid where he took great pride in selecting the best boars and gilts for his customers. He was proud to say that he never had a hog rejected. If it wasn’t good enough for Sam, it wouldn’t have been good enough for his customers.

He enjoyed fishing with the guys and made many memorable trips to Canada. In his later years, he enjoyed playing cribbage with friends and was always pleased when he managed to skunk Gordy. Sam also loved his Labradors, who brought him much joy and companionship over the years.

Sam will be remembered for his hard work, love of the outdoors, and the special friendships he made throughout his life. He will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mabel; and his brothers, Ronald and Verlin.

He is survived by his brother, Richard; along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews who will cherish his memory. Sam also leaves behind his special friend, Glenda Belz, and the Belz family, who held a special place in his heart, as well as his beloved chocolate Lab, Maya.

Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Woodbury Cemetery located at 10504 MN-105, west of Lyle with a luncheon immediately following at the Carpenter Community Center at 3:00 pm.
