Sharon Marie Hanson, 83, of rural St. Ansgar, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026, at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage with her family by her side.
Sharon was born on Aug. 9, 1942, to Clarence and Laura Wilde of rural Osage. She graduated from Grafton High School, and then attended Waldorf University in Forest City, where she earned a business degree. Sharon was united in marriage to Marvin Hanson at St. John’s Lutheran Church, of rural Osage, on Nov. 30, 1963. They moved to a farm near St. Ansgar where they lived until moving to Osage in 2024.
Farming was a central part of Sharon’s life. She grew up on a diversified livestock farm, and her and Marvin operated a dairy farm with family. She also worked off the farm as a church secretary in Brooklyn, Minnesota; a waitress at Gabe’s Fish House in St. Ansgar and at grocery stores in St. Ansgar and Northwood until she officially retired. Her main joy in life, though, was raising her three children and being a full-time housewife. She loved to bake goodies for her family and neighbors. There always seemed to be a plate of cookies or pan of bars on the kitchen counter for the family to snack on.
Sharon had a love for gardening and growing flowers. There was always a beautiful display to be viewed at the farm. Sharon was an active member of Deer Creek Lutheran Church near Carpenter and active in the church’s ladies' groups. One group she particularly loved made quilt tops for nursing homes. She was always finding fabric and putting together a new pattern. Sharon also participated in a Ladies Bible Study group at church and ensured her work schedule didn’t conflict with church activities.
Camping was a favorite family activity, allowing Marvin and Sharon to spend quality time with their kids. Once she and Marvin retired, they added yearly bus trips around the country, always visiting new places.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Laura Wilde; her brother, Eugene Wilde, and her great-granddaughter, Kinley Hanson. She is survived by her husband, Marvin; children, Norman Hanson (Lynette) of Albert City, Candace Clark (Daniel) of St. Ansgar, Neil Hanson of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren, Jesse Hanson (Jessica) of Sac City, Josh Hanson of Sac City, Jared Hanson of Cedar Falls, Morgan Woodruff (Ty) of Klondike, Texas, Quintin Lloyd (Jaci) of Wichita Falls, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Blake, Brody, Lex, and Ila. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Wilde of St. Ansgar, and many other family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Faith Lutheran Home, Osage, and St. Croix Hospice, Charles City. The family of Sharon wishes to thank the dedicated staff of these organizations for their gentle, compassionate care of Sharon and for their support of our family.
The funeral service will take place on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church 1202 390th St., Osage, IA, 50461. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Newburg Cemetery in Carpenter. Hoff Celebrations - Champion Chapel of Osage is assisting the family with arrangements.
